August 15, 2007 (Plymouth, MA)—Rob Oppenheim, fresh off his win at the Bangor Open in Maine, and Geoffrey Sisk, still hot from his win at the Atlantic Open last month, both played two fantastic rounds of golf on a course that made many struggle. After day two of the Crosswinds Open, they are tied for the lead at six under, 138.

Sisk, at one point six under for the day, would have tied the course record that Oppenheim set only yesterday. However, his bogie on 17 reeled him back to a still impressive 67.

“You have to keep the ball in play out here,” Sisk said of the difficult course set-up. “If you get the ball not within rough lines, you could have problems; you may not find it, number one, and number two, if you do find it you may not have a swing—so the key is to obviously keep the ball somewhere within the rough line.”

Lucky for Sisk though, Oppenheim only played steady today after yesterday’s record-setting round. “I felt like I played pretty well today,” said Oppenheim. “I didn’t make the putts like I did yesterday, but I almost felt like I hit the ball better today.” But coming in at par, 72, was still enough to keep him in contention and tie Sisk for the lead, assuring an exciting final round as these two go head-to-head.

At their heels is Dustin Cone at five under, 139. Like Sisk, Cone had a better second round, shooting a 68. “Besides the bogie on the last hole, I’m pretty pleased,” said Cone of today’s performance. “That was my only bogie of the day which is pretty good out there in my mind.”

Sitting one stroke back, as well as having a 2007 NAPGT win under his belt at Crumpin-Fox, Cone should up the competition and make sure the leaders don’t forget about him.

“[There are] two good players at the top,” said Cone of the leaderboard. “Either way it was a good round for both of them, especially Rob coming back after such a low round. But you can do anything out on this course, especially with the wind blowing. So we’ll see tomorrow—it will be fun.
