September 7, 2007 (Brewster, MA)—Geoff Sisk shot a very smart five under, 67 in the final round of the Captains Open to finish at a thirteen under, 203 for the tournament. He took home the trophy and his third win this season.

“I heard the weather was going to be a little windy today,” he said. So he decided to adjust his game plan accordingly, his plan was to stay within his abilities and play smartly.

“I missed a few shots when I shouldn’t have, but I made good putts to save pars, which is what it’s all about—the short game,” he said. His superior putting and good chipping helped him gain the lead at the eleventh hole and carry it though to the end.

Justin Goodhue and Michael Harris tied for second at eleven under, 205. Harris, last year’s Captains Open winner, made a run for it today surpassing over a dozen other players.

“That was kind of my goal coming in today: try and play as well as I could and just jump as many spots as I could,” he said. “I thought in eleventh place there were so many guys ahead of me that there was really no chance of winning, and there may be no chance at winning, but at least try and climb my way up the leaderboard.”

This approach worked fairly well for Harris. After shooting an amazing seven under, 29 on the front side, he was tied at one point for first with Sisk.

“I just caught fire out there. I started making a couple putts [and the] confidence got going,” he said. “When you’re putting it well you just kind of feel like you gotta get it somewhere in a reasonable distance and you’ve got a chance.”

But a more difficult back side and an unstoppable Sisk put an end to what could have been a record-breaking round. “It was tough to keep it going,” said Harris. “I think I kind of ran out of steam a little bit.”

Goodhue, one of yesterday’s leaders, was also having some trouble today. “The wind was tough, everything was tough out there,” he said.

But he kept it going all the way to hole eighteen, where he eagled to tie for second. “I was definitely aware of where I stood. I made a bogie on 17 and I knew I needed an eagle for the tie,” said Goodhue. “I hit the perfect shot and nailed the putt.”

This great last hole helped ease the pain a little on coming so close to the win. “It was bittersweet. I put in a good effort but came in short,” said Goodhue. “Geoff played unbelievable—five under today was some round.”

This is a fact that everyone can agree with, but the ever-humble Sisk put it in perspective. “It’s great to win ‘cause you never know when it’s your last. You keep working hard,” he said. “I’m gearing up for tour school and I want to keep winning, but I take here and now and stay in the present.”
