Sisk is one of 156 players in this week’s U.S. Open field at Oakmont Country Club. It’s the fifth time he’s managed to qualify through the local and sectional phases of the championship.

“I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself,” said Sisk, who made the cut at the 1999 and 2004 U.S. Opens and played the PGA Tour in 1999 without much success. “It’s a little easier for me because I am not expected to do well.

“I don’t have that name recognition nationally. I have recognition in the New England area for my accomplishments. I wasn’t a college player of the year. I wasn’t first-team All-America. I didn’t win a U.S. Amateur. I didn’t win a Porter Cup or the Northeast Amateur or other big [amateur] tournaments. I wasn’t on a Walker Cup team. So it is tough for me to get that kind of consideration [for sponsor’s exemptions into tour events] unless I know someone who is a title sponsor.”
