July 24, 2007 (Plymouth, MA)—High winds and low scores were seen throughout the 36 holes of day one at the North American Pro Golf Tour’s Atlantic Open. With only eleven and ties going on to day two, the cut was made at even par, 144.

After the first round, Dustin Cone, the winner of the Crumpin-Fox Open, was in the lead with an astonishing six under, 66, beating the course record of 67.

“I played well [in the first round],” said Cone. “My proximity to the holes has been really close.” He also attributed his great score to making putts, and not making many mistakes.

Not far behind him in second place were Kyle Gallo, Geoffrey Sisk, and Brent Wanner at four under, 68, making their chance in round two very promising as well.

The second round did not change the leader board much; Cone still led, but increasing afternoon winds contributed to him decreasing his margin. He played a second round two under, 70, making his total eight under, 136.

At Cone’s heels in second was Geoff Sisk, who said his better play in the afternoon round gave him his total of seven under, 137.

“I was fortunate enough to hit it good and solid and played smartly coming in,” said Sisk. “Just trying to see what I could do not to get it too far behind going into tomorrow’s round.”

Clint Deibert, having a better second round than first as well, ended the day in third place with a four under, 140.

Also notable today was the NAPGT debut of Anna Grzebien. Being the first woman player on the tour, she scored a commendable seven over, 79 on her first round out and the same on her second round. Although she didn’t make it on to round three, Grzebien said that she had a good time out there and is looking forward to playing again.

“I’ve got some things to work on,” she said “But I knew it was kind of going to be a learning experience, this first one. I couldn’t set too high of expectations, just learn from it.”

Play resumes tomorrow morning at 7 a.m.
