August 7, 2007 (Harvard, MA)—Billy Downes’ best finish of his nineteen year mini-tour career was second place, nearly ten years ago, on a tour that has since changed sponsorship. At 41-years-old, he has seen, done and played nearly everywhere.
And after two rounds of the Shaker Hills Open, Downes—who had never laid eyes on the 6,850 yard course—also happens to have a two shot lead over his nearest competitors Michael Harris and Dustin Cone, eleven and seventeen years his junior, respectively.
“Things change,” he said, and they certainly have. Downes traded tour life for family life after he made the decision last year to stop playing full time after the birth of his son, now nearly two years old. Continue reading ‘Generations Duel for Second Round Supremacy at Shaker Hills’

North American Pro Golf Tour Members Rob Oppenheim and Brent Wanner won the Greater Bangor Open and the Rhode Island Open respectively, proving yet again the high caliber of golfers on the NAPGT.
Oppenheim shot a 69-67-64 giving him a three day total of seven under, 200 at the Greater Bangor Open July 26-28 in Bangor, ME. “I started putting better the last two days,” Oppenheim said of his improved play the last round. Playing the course also helped to get his game in the comfort zone, he said.
This victory is well deserved for Oppenheim, who has been working hard all year without many wins. “Even though I haven’t been playing that well in some of the events—I missed the cut at the Mass Open, I missed the cut at Blackstone—I still felt like I was improving,” said Oppenheim. August 6, 2007 (Harvard, MA)—It was a shaky start for some on the first day of the Shaker Hills Open in Harvard, MA. High scores were had by many, all attributing it to a difficult course, and an especially demanding back nine.
Tied for the lead at four under, 67 are Dustin Cone and Michael Harris, both feeling good about their play today considering the arduous conditions.
“It’s a hard course out there, it really is,” said Cone, who has had three top ten finishes, including a win at Crumpin-Fox. Continue reading ‘Cone and Harris Tied for the Lead on First Day at Shaker Hills’

Andrew Svoboda of Larchmont, NY, captured the North Fork Bank New York State Open Championship at Bethpage Black July 17–19.
Ranked third on the NAPGT money list, Svoboda took the Mark Grossinger Etess trophy with a two under par three-day total of 211. He was the only player to remain under par for 54 holes- a feat he owed in some part to his superior play off the tee.
“I drove it really good at Bethpage and whenever you can drive it really good at a course where there’s a lot of rough it’s a big advantage,” he said while warming up at this week’s Atlantic Open in Plymouth, MA.
Trailing only Dustin Cone and Geoffrey Sisk, Svoboda has taken home a total of $13,229 so far after winning the Atkinson Open June 8 and tying for sixth at the Blackstone Open July 10. Continue reading ‘NAPGT Member Andrew Svoboda wins at NY State Open’
On August 6-8, 2007, the North American Pro Golf Tour will be at Shaker Hills Golf Club in Harvard, MA.
Once rated the number one public course in Massachusetts by Golf Digest, this par 71 of Brian Silva design should prove to be a good test for the NAPGT golfers.
“The golf course is extremely challenging,” said Mike Herrick, Head Golf Professional at Shaker Hills. “Some of the holes play very long and narrow and it’s a golf course that you need to play all the clubs in your bag.”
Both the NAPGT and Shaker Hills are excited for the upcoming event. “These are some really good players coming out here and the golf course can play tough, so I’d like to see what the winner’s score is going to be,” said Herrick.
Practice rounds are August 5 from 1-3 p.m. and the tournament starts August 6 at 7:30 a.m.

July 24, 2007 (Plymouth, MA)—A seemingly insurmountable lead separated Dustin Cone from Geoff Sisk in the final round of the Atlantic Open when at five shots back with five holes to play, the door Cone so patiently closed on Sisk swung wide open.
Cone looked to be cruising toward his second straight week in the NAPGT winner’s circle when he made eight at the par five fourteenth.
His tee shot kicked into the woods when it landed on the mound of a bunker; Cone then declared his lie in the trees unplayable. He took his one stroke penalty and chipped out, lying three in the fairway. His fourth shot sailed over the green, with not one, but two wedges chalked before his ball came to rest on the green. Two putts later, eight. Continue reading ‘Sisk, Rallies Late at Atlantic, Topples Cone’
