July 24, 2007 (Plymouth, MA)—High winds and low scores were seen throughout the 36 holes of day one at the North American Pro Golf Tour’s Atlantic Open. With only eleven and ties going on to day two, the cut was made at even par, 144.

After the first round, Dustin Cone, the winner of the Crumpin-Fox Open, was in the lead with an astonishing six under, 66, beating the course record of 67.

“I played well [in the first round],” said Cone. “My proximity to the holes has been really close.” He also attributed his great score to making putts, and not making many mistakes. Continue reading ‘Cone Leads Second Consecutive Event’

NAPGT Welcomes First Woman Player, Anna Grzebien

July 23, 2007 (Plymouth, MA)—With the start of the Atlantic Country Club Open tomorrow in Plymouth, MA, the North American Pro Golf Tour will have a first: Anna Grzebien, a 22 year-old Duke graduate who just turned pro, will be the first female to play on the tour.

To name just a few items from her impressive resume, Grzebien is a three time NCAA champion at Duke University, three time New England Women’s Golf Association champion, and winner of the 2006 Massachusetts Women’s Open. She said she is very excited, albeit nervous, about this new challenge.

Grzebien said playing on the NAPGT is “… just a way to stay competitive. You guys have so many events which is really nice, and then to play with the guys is just going to test me even more, playing longer courses and stuff like that,” she said.

This will be the first time Grzebien will play competitively against men and she knows it will probably be tough out there. But she is friends with a few of the guys, which should help, she said. More importantly she is just taking it step by step.

“I’m not gonna go in with too many expectations, especially for the first event,” said Grzebien. “I just want to get back into the mindset, because I had a little bit of a break, and hopefully just do a little better each week till I get more comfortable and get used to playing at that length,” she said.

Grzebien loves to compete but has also found a balance between being intense and having fun. Her style of competition, which is focused inward, rather than against other golfers, might help her along in this new environment.

“Obviously you want to be the low person,” she said. “But you can’t be caught up into what other people are doing—then you lose the focus of what you’re trying to get done.”

Grzebien has been playing golf since age five when her dad used to take her and her two sisters to Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett, RI, her hometown. She has always wanted to turn pro. “It’s wild it’s finally here,” she said. “It’s usually something I’ve just been talking about, but it’s here and it’s pretty cool.”

Purse Increased For Atlantic CC Open

The North American Pro Golf Tour has increased the purse at the Atlantic Open to bring the winner’s prize to $7000. There are spots available at the moment. If you are interested in competing in this event please contact Matt Hoeske or Al Stewart at 978-342-1769.

Atlantic CC Open Starts July 24th

Keeping their busy July schedule rolling, the North American Pro Golf Tour will be at Atlantic Country Club July 24-26, 2007 in Plymouth, MA.

According to Don Daley, Head PGA Professional at Atlantic, every hole of this award-winning golf course presents a unique challenge where good shots are rewarded and bad shots are penalized; something that will keep the NAPGT members on their toes.

“I’m excited to see how the players score on this course,” said Daley. “If we get good conditions you can see some pretty low scores because it’s a pretty fair test. But if the wind blows, which it usually does out here, your scores will not be as low as you think.”

Registration for this event is still open. Practice rounds are July 23 from 2-6 p.m. The tournament starts July 24 at 7:30 a.m.

July 18, 2007 (Bernardston, MA)—Day three of the Crumpin-Fox Open brought early fog, late rain and low scores from some, while others ground out their toughest round yet.

Winner Dustin Cone, whose game proved to be solid last week at Blackstone National Golf Course, carried his momentum all the way to Bernardston, mounting a steadily rising swell of momentum over the 54 holes.

Standing on the sixteenth tee Cone was fifteen under par for the tournament when his good karma began to run out, finishing his third round with a triplet of bogeys. Continue reading ‘Cone Emerges From the Fog for First NAPGT Victory’

Rain Delays, but Doesn’t Slow Down, Golfers on Second Day at Crumpin-Fox

Photo by Kyle Coburn/NAPGT :: Story by Stacia Golem

July 18, 2007 (Bernardston, MA)—After a 30 minute rain delay, the second round of the NAPGT Crumpin-Fox Open started in soggy conditions. Despite the continual rain, the golfers enjoyed softer greens as well as the lift, clean and place rule.

Tied for the lead at nine under are Jim Renner and Dustin Cone. Renner, yesterday’s leader, shot 68 today, one more than yesterday’s 67. “It was a grind out there,” Renner said. “With the rain it was obviously wet but it was nice to play lift, clean and place so that made a big difference.”

Renner’s solid play yesterday carried into the second round, when he hit a hot streak on the back nine. “[On holes 13, 14, and 15] I went birdie, eagle, birdie,” he said. “It’s kind of where I got my round to where it was.”

Cone’s 67 today will put him in contention for tomorrow’s final round. “I played the par three’s really well,” he said. “I birdied every one of them.” Continue reading ‘Rain Delays, but Doesn’t Slow Down, Golfers on Second Day at Crumpin-Fox’

Renner shoots 67 to lead at Crumpin-Fox Open

Photo by Kasey Hine/NAPGT :: Story by Matt Byrne/NAPGT

July 17, 2007 (Bernardston, MA)-In what some players said was the toughest setup yet of the 2007 NAPGT schedule, James Renner pulled ahead of the 59 player field with a steady, if not exceptional, round of five under par 67.

“I played pretty good today,” Renner said. Although the lowest shooter of the day, he said he “expected someone to go lower.”

Renner is in his first year as an NAPGT member; last year he participated in a handful of events.

Trailing the lead by only one shot was Dustin Cone and Eli Zackheim at four under par 68. Cone finished twelve under par and tied for fourth at last week’s Blackstone National Open Championship, continuing this week with more birdies and solid play.
